Indian Jet Skiing: Speeding Towards Popularity

Jet skiing is fast becoming one of India’s most exciting water sports, thanks to the country’s long coastline and an increasing number of water sports enthusiasts. Once considered a luxury activity reserved for tourists, jet skiing is now gaining recognition as a competitive sport, with young athletes taking up the challenge.

The 2024 Indian Jet Skiing Championships, held in Goa, was a major step forward for the sport. Competitors from across India and neighboring countries participated in high-speed races across various categories. The highlight of the event was the performance of local Goan athlete Arjun D’Souza, who clinched the title in the pro-amateur category. D’Souza’s victory was seen as a breakthrough moment for Indian jet skiing, marking the rise of the sport in the national consciousness.

Jet skiing competitions have been organized in popular tourist destinations like Goa, Kerala, and Andaman Islands, where the sport is rapidly gaining traction. The Indian Jet Skiing Federation (IJSF) has been instrumental in organizing events and setting up training programs to encourage more athletes to participate. Additionally, local water sports operators are providing access to equipment and coaching, helping to build a pipeline of young talent.

One of the challenges facing jet skiing in India is the high cost of equipment and maintenance. However, sponsorship deals and increased media coverage are helping to alleviate some of these financial burdens. As more athletes take up the sport and compete at higher levels, jet skiing is expected to become more accessible and popular across the country.

With India’s natural advantage of vast water bodies and a growing interest in water sports, jet skiing is poised to make a big splash in the coming years. As competitions become more frequent and the sport gains recognition, Indian athletes are likely to make their mark on the international jet skiing circuit as well.
